Strings and Patriotism from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy Friday, Quilters! Another week has gone by and I have some more completed quilts sent in by CiL supporters.

Erin sent in these two wild scrappy string quilts. These remind me of the block drive we did in Jan 2020.

Mina is a frequent contributor to CiL, she's the one who makes the village quilts you may remember seeing. She sent in these two red/white/blue plus quilts full of cute fabrics.

Patriotic quilts are always in demand and among the most coveted at the hospital. It's an honor to be able to gift a veteran ...

Happy New Year! from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy New Year everyone! I feel like every year since 2020 the new year has been a little fraught. You want to say it's going to be a better year than the last but... what if something like 2020 happens to us again?

Anyway, I am quietly keeping my fingers crossed for a pleasant, uneventful, and healing year for the world.  Speaking of healing, all these quilts of comfort were donated by longtime CiL supporter Mina!

I know many of you will be disappointed, but CiL's block drive will be remaining on hiatus for a while longer. I ...

Red White and Brrrrr from Kat & Cat Quilts

Blocks by Holly L assembled and quilted by Pam

Hey everyone, sorry I missed posting last week! I usually at least give you a cat picture if I can't get a post together but the whole day completely snuck past me.  As compensation here's another photo Sundae dressing up in my Christmas gifts.

She's thrilled, really ;) Now back to your regularly scheduled quilt content.

These are the first quilts to be posted from this past summer's RWB patriotic stars drive. This one was pieced and assembled by Linda D., who does so much longarm quilting to ...

New Year New Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello and Happy New Year! The first thing that needs to go on this post is one last quilt from Louise. This one has components from Tracy L, among others.  It had a dye-bleed issue due to one of the backing fabrics, and due to space constraints on her boat we decided that I would tackle it here. Fortunately, with a 24h soak in Oxi and Dawn it came clean!

I'm so glad Louise made the past two posts and told us about her process for making her beautiful quilts from orphan scraps.  I always love what she does ...

With a Little Help From my Friends from Kat & Cat Quilts

Top by Beth, pattern "Wanda" by GE Designs, quilted by me

More quilts finished this week from tops sent in by generous quilters!  Covered in Love is rapidly approaching 1000 quilts.  Do you guys have any suggestions how we should celebrate?

Top by Beth, pattern "Hope" by GE Designs, quilted by me

When we hit 300 back in January of 2018 I had a giveaway along with the block drive, which seems like a good idea.

The pace of quilts this spring has obviously been much faster than usual ...

Four Finished from Kat & Cat Quilts

Four finished quilts, that came in the mail already finished!  My favorite kind.  These are being dropped off at the hospital today along with a couple dozen others.

Alice sent in this pink and green diamond pattern quilt

I was getting some papers signed at the hospital the other day and made an impromptu visit to Chaplain Perry. They're made a serious dent in the 50 quilts I dropped off right after Christmas!  Perry said that a lot were given our during Snow-vid week and the week before.  Lots of deaths, and a few people just stressed beyond their ...

Merry Christmas, Have Some Quilts! from Kat & Cat Quilts

Merry Christmas quilters! This is my faaaaavorite holdiday; I love the whole Christmas season.  I am now working on a Covid unit and volunteered to work the holiday so my family celebrated on Wednesday.

These first two quilts were assembled and quilted by Linda D. from blocks sent in by Mina during the July/August block drive.

There's another star quilt that Mina sent in in this post, so that's a total of three from her for the summer stars drive!

As many of you know, these patriotic star quilts are some of the most popular ones that ...

Mina from Texas from Kat & Cat Quilts

This week's post is a celebration of one of Covered in Love's most dedicated volunteers, Mina from Texas! Since way way back Mina has been sending in block as well as some beautiful tops and this post features 4 finished quilts she recently sent in.

Of course Mina's signature quilts are these friendly scrappy villages.  I just did a rough count and I think CiL has received about  17 of them from her (plus the 3 un-quilted tops I have right now makes 20!)

The pattern for these village quilts is a free one from Quiltville. You ...

World Village from Kat & Cat Quilts

If you've been following Covered in Love for very long then you've definitely seen these "village" quilts before. Mina makes them and I love what they represent! Mina says "the block is from the Quiltville site and is a free pattern called Happy Scrappy Houses.  It is so simple and only uses 3 sizes."

The top two on this page were sent in completely finished by Mina, the second were tops that I finished.

These 4 quilts were part of a delivery to the hospital last week of 32 quilts, which pushed us to a total of 650 ...

A little reminder... from Kat & Cat Quilts

Jan/Feb string blocks quilt sent in by Tammy S

I got a nice reminder of why we do what we do a last week in the form of an email from a recipient's family member. She graciously gave me permission to share part of her letter with you.

A.'s mom received a very sudden and unexpected cancer diagnosis and died just 11 days after getting the news, 9 of those days spent in the hospital under lockdown with only one family member able to visit.

Annual Existential Crisis from Kat & Cat Quilts

How are we halfway into January already? How does time just keep passing like this???  To be honest, one of my greatest fears is to fall into the "adulthood" trap of cyclically going to work, coming home and getting ready for work the next day, not accomplishing anything meaningful and barely noticing time passing. (This scares the bejeesus out of me).

But... I do have to earn money to be able to eat and keep the cats in comfort. And sometimes you have to play the work game and climb the ladder if ...
